Dear Beechdale residents

Please find further down the page a copy of the beat update for the month of January, which is also published each month on our webpage.

I would also like to remind you of future dates for our beat surgeries, which are also published on the webpage. These informal drop-in sessions are your opportunity to raise issues of concern locally, discuss any crime patterns in the local area and receive security advice. Of course, if you cannot make any of these dates, then please do not hesitate to contact me to arrange a personal visit.

  • Tuesday 28th February – 1030-1115am approx. – Aspley Pentecostal Church, Aspley Lane.
  • Wednesday 29th February – 1045-1130am approx. – Mustard Tree café, Salvation Army, Aspley Lane
I am currently awaiting confirmation from the council with regards to the date of the next Local Action Group meeting, which is attended by the local Leen Valley Ward councillors and is open to all residents to raise local issues, discuss local initiatives and influence priorities.

Regards,

CURRENT BEECHDALE BEAT UPDATE FEBRUARY 2012

Crime performance
Reviewing performance across the beat area for 2011 – 2012 shows that there have been some great results in certain areas of crime compared to the previous year. Dwelling burglary is down over 22% - Robbery is down over 25% - Burglary other (normally sheds and unoccupied properties) is down by over 28% - Criminal damage is down by over 14% - and violence against the person is also down over 23%.

This is great news however other areas have seen an increase which has affected the performance of the area as a whole. Theft is up 50%, and vehicle crime is up over 66%. Many of the thefts are due to an increase in shoplifting and, earlier in the year, metal thefts. The increase in vehicle crime is largely down to a “blip” last summer, whilst incidents have been low in number since.

January crime patterns
During January there were no significant spikes in crime to report. We continue to target our patrols to ensure we are in place to deter and detect offenders. We also ensure we offer crime prevention, manage offenders, and work with our partners to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.

Anti-social behaviour
We are seeing an increase in ASB at the rear of the Beechdale Swimming Baths. This is linked to the same group of youths reported at the underpass on Western Boulevard. Patrols have been increased in the area to address this situation and we are engaging with nearby residents, school and swimming centre. Arrests have been made when grounds have existed to do so and this proactive policing work will continue in efforts to eradicate the problem. Anti social behaviour will not be tolerated and we are in the process of working with our partners to ensure this is stopped. If you have any information that may help or witness ASB in the area, please contact us.

Drugs
Across the wider area, a total of 24 drugs warrants were executed in January, seizing a total of an estimated £103,000 worth of controlled drugs. Arrests have been made and we are also working with our partners to ensure anyone convicted is evicted from their property. However, only a very small number of these warrants were on the Beechdale beat itself, which is reflective of the lower level of drug-related problems in the area. Having said that, we would encourage residents to report any suspicious behaviour at local addresses. Things to look out for are regular unexplained comings and goings from specific addresses, unusual smells, unusual visitors to unoccupied properties, etc. Such suspicious activity may be reported to the Police non-emergency number on 101 or to Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111.
